Diversity

Osnabrück University sees the diverse composition of its members and affiliates as a sign of quality and a prerequisite for innovative and excellent results in studies, teaching, academic qualification and research. It is committed to an academic and work culture that values different perspectives, realities of life and backgrounds of experience and provides all members and affiliates with fair opportunities and a learning, teaching and working environment that is critical of discrimination. Furthermore, it attaches great importance to supporting each individual in the development of their talents and potential – regardless of social categorizations such as gender, cultural or social background, sexual identity, religion/belief, age, disability and race.

In order to promote an appreciative approach to diversity and the reduction of inequality and to anchor diversity policy structurally, UOS is already taking various measures that are to be further developed and supplemented in the future as part of a diversity strategy.

The UOS signed the “Diversity Charter” in 2018. The   Charta der Vielfalt e.V.  is an employer initiative that aims to promote an appreciative and inclusive approach to diversity in the world of work. By signing the charter, UOS has committed to creating a working environment in which prejudice and discrimination are eliminated and the diversity of all members and employees is recognized and valued. It recognizes that managers have a special obligation in this regard.

The UOS Equal Opportunity Office organizes annual events on the topic of diversity and anti-discrimination, e.g. as part of Diversity Day:
