Madame Courage

The Madame Courage Osnabrück scholarship program is funded by the Sozialdienst katholischer Frauen e. V. Osnabrück and is carried out in cooperation with the Equal Opportunity Offices of Osnabrück University and Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences.

Its aim is to support single-parent students who have no other financial resources at their disposal with a temporary grant to help them complete their studies.

Single-parent students are facing exceptional difficulties, which generally affect the length of their studies and the completion of their degree. The current BAföG (the German education grant) regulations do not always allow for sufficient support. Situations can become challenging, for example, if single-parent students are unable or no longer able to claim BAföG or if their parents are unable or unwilling to pay child support. In general, these students are not entitled to social benefits (benefits according to SGB II). Paid work is only possible under extremely difficult conditions as it is almost impossible to juggle having a child, studying and working at the same time.

Madame Courage would like to provide financial support during these challenging times.

The financial support aims to give students the opportunity to complete their degree and, ideally, achieve long-term financial independence.

Parenthood should not lead to social disadvantage or fewer educational opportunities.

Funding Period and Amount

Funding opportunities are generally reserved for the final semester. The financial support is based on the amount of the federal education grant.

Single-parent students at Osnabrück University and Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences who are eligible to apply:

  • Commitment and active engagement with the goals of the donation project
