Student Representation, Groups and Initiatives

As a student, you have the chance to help shape the university and the campus! Get involved in the student committees and contribute your ideas. Numerous groups and initiatives on various topics are also open to you.

Student Representative Committees

All students at the university together form the student body, which is divided into student representative committees. Depending on the chosen degree program, enrolled students belong to a student representative committee and can participate in the respective committee general assembly. You can contact your student representative committee via the  schools and institutes.

Each student representative committee elects a faculty student council to represent the concerns and interests of the students. In addition, the student council plans and organizes events such as lectures, parties or introductory days for new students and provides advice.

The student representative committee coordination conference is responsible for coordinating the student representative committees with each other and with other bodies of the student body.

Student Council

The student body elects its representatives to the  Student Council (StuRa) once a year. Its members belong to  University Groups which, like political parties, represent different interests. The Student Council is the highest directly elected body of the student body. It can form committees, commissions and project departments to fulfill its tasks. The StuRa members also elect the Student Government.

Student Government

The  Student Government, which is elected by the StuRa members, is divided into  Departments with various tasks and topics such as finance, university policy or culture. The Student Government is the executive body of the student body, the officers represent the student body externally.

Initiatives

You can also get involved in one of the many  Initiatives such as Amnesty International, Osnabrück Gaming e.V., legal advice for the needy or Unifunk. Official Student Government initiatives can receive financial support and use Student Government rooms.

Autonomous Departments

Autonomous Departments - unlike the Student Government departments - work autonomously and independently of all other bodies of the student body. These include, for example, the Department for Women and Gender Equality, the Queer Department, the Department for Foreign Students and the Department for BIPoC. Their officers are elected in a general assembly by the respective group of the student body whose interests they represent.

Osnabrück University Communities

The Osnabrück university communities offer like-minded people a place for spiritual, cultural and social encounters. They organize various events such as church services and devotions, seminars, workshops, cultural events and excursions.
