You would like to apply for a civil servant position advertised by Osnabrück University. The protection of your personal data is very important to us.

Employee data protection and, thus, also applicant data protection is legally regulated in the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Lower Saxony Civil Service Act (NBG). In accordance with Art. 13 (1) and (2) GDPR, we must inform applicants about the type of data collection upon receipt of the documents.

Purposes for which personal data is processed

We collect and process the personal data of applicants for the purpose of carrying out the application process.

Legal bases on which the processing takes place

The legal basis for this is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. e GDPR i. V. m. Art. 88 GDPR i. in conjunction with Section 88 (1) NBG.

The recipients or categories of recipients of the personal data

The personal data will only be processed by the responsible departments of the university and will not be forwarded to anyone outside the university.

The duration for which the personal data will be stored or, if this is not possible, the criteria for determining the duration

Personal data is stored for the duration of the application process and generally up to 6 months after the application process has ended. The data of applicants for a professorship is stored as part of the committee documents for 15 years, after which time the data is deleted.

The data subject is entitled to the following rights, which he or she can assert under the conditions specified in the respective articles

  • the right of access under Article 15 GDPR,
  • the right to rectification under Article 16 GDPR,
  • the right to erasure under Article 17 GDPR,
  • the right to restriction of processing in accordance with Article 18 GDPR
  • the right to object pursuant to Article 21 GDPR,
  • the right to withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal
  • the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority in accordance with Article 77 GDPR

You do not have the right to erasure in accordance with Article 17 GDPR if the processing of your personal data is necessary for the performance of our tasks as a university or to fulfill legal obligations.
