P4: Mathematical Structures and Models
Mathematical models are used in many scientific fields. While complex mathematical structures and models are fundamentally investigated in the field of mathematics, the modeling and application of abstract structures in other schools also requires an in-depth study of mathematical models.
Scientists from these two groups work together in the"Mathematical Structures and Models" profile line in Osnabrück. This includes around 30 professorships from mathematics, computer science, didactics of mathematics and computer science, geoinformatics, cognitive science, econometrics, statistics and environmental systems research as well as physics. The profile line includes, for example
- the DFG Research Training Group Combinatorial Structures in Geometry (2013-2018)
- the interest groups "Graphs and Networks" and"Statistics"
- Mathematics didactics as an integration and coordination point for interdisciplinary teacher training in research and teaching
- Participation in priority programs and collaborative research centers of the German Research Foundation (DFG-SPP and DFG-SFB)
- numerous group and individual projects, as well as the organization of high-ranking international conferences
- and, starting in October 2017, the profile line-funded Research Training Group Graphs and Networks, in which we jointly strengthen the further networking of the Institutes of Computer Science and Mathematics through cooperative doctoral topics. For example, communication networks are being investigated in which the movement of participants, data traffic and topological structure are described using stochastic models.
