Top Events

Welcome to the overview of the top events at Osnabrück University!

Every year we welcome numerous students, staff and interested members of the public to our centrally organized events. These include not only the ceremonial awarding of prizes and scholarships, but also the Science Goes Public, the Doctoral Awards Ceremony for Freshers and the Welcoming Ceremony for Freshers.

The highlight of the year is always our glamorous University Ball in the OsnabrückHalle, to which all dance enthusiasts are cordially invited!

Formats such as the University Information Day, the Osnabrück Peace Forum and University Music are also very popular with the public.

June 13, 2025 : University Ball

Once a year, the University organizes a glamorous ball to which all dance enthusiasts who are not part of the university are cordially invited.

June 26, 2025 : Prize for Good Academic Teaching

The university awards three Hans Mühlenhoff Prizes for Good Academic Teaching. The special thing about it: students nominate their favorites from among the teaching staff themselves.

July 4, 2025 : Doctoral Awards Ceremony

Together with the City of Osnabrück University, the University congratulates its doctoral graduates on successfully completing their doctoral thesis in the Schlossaula and Friedenssaal of the town hall.

October 7, 2025 : Welcoming Ceremony for our First Semester Students

The University President welcomes all "newcomers" to the winter semester: There will also be numerous stands offering an overview of campus life and city culture.

November 20, 2025 : Award Ceremony for the “Deutschland” Scholarships

November 20, 2025 : Award Ceremony for the DAAD Prize

Every year, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) honors international students who stand out for their special academic achievements or commitment.

What should I study? And how can I imagine studying? The ZSB organizes a varied program for prospective students together with the university and college departments.

Osnabrück Peace Forum

Promoting and maintaining peace, but how? High-profile guests from the worlds of science, politics and society will discuss topics relating to this key question.

University Music

From chamber concerts to jazz nights, the ensembles of the Institute of Musicology and Music Education offer a creative and challenging program.

Philosophical Café

The Philosophical Café has been inspiring its audience since 2005: four - now retired - professors encourage interested members of the public to philosophize about various topics.
