Pre-Sessional German language course

Studying and living in Osnabrück

The Pre-Sessional German language course is all about learning German while discovering nature, culture and student life in and around Osnabrück.

At CEFR levels A1 and A2 you will develop proficiency in all four communicative competences (reception, production, interaction, mediation) so that you will find it easier to get started in Osnabrück. At CEFR levels B1 and B2 we will focus more on language skills that are relevant for your studies.

The Pre-Sessional German language course starts on 8 Sep 2025 and ends on 26 Sep 2025.

We cordially invite all international students, doctoral candidates and postdocs who are enrolled at Osnabrück University for the winter semester 2025/2026 to take part in the Pre-Sessional German language course. This will provide you with the best possible preparation for your studies and research stay at Osnabrück University.

The language courses take place in the mornings from Monday to Friday (50 lessons in total). In the afternoons, we offer a fun-filled leisure program with activities and short trips in and around the city.

Certificates and credits

For their regular and active participation, all participants will receive a certificate of attendance and 4 ECTS points. However, a final grade is not awarded.

Course organization and contents

The Pre-Sessional German language course is offered at levels A1 to B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The minimum number of participants per level is five.

The basic level courses (A1 and A2) focus primarily on those skills that you need for everyday life in Osnabrück and Germany.

In the intermediate level courses (B1 and B2), the focus is on communicative situations that you encounter at university life and on developing communication strategies (e.g. arguing, summarizing, presenting, etc.) necessary for participating in your courses and seminars.
