Scholarship "Landesstipendium Niedersachsen"

Osnabrück University awards scholarships of € 500 each (one-off payment) every year as part of a program set up by the state of Lower Saxony. You can receive such a state scholarship for special achievements or outstanding aptitude, for outstanding voluntary work and to promote international cooperation in higher education and exchange between German and foreign universities. When selecting the scholarship holders, which is based on a corresponding guideline, special consideration is given to the needs of international students. The scholarships are announced for the winter semester and paid out by April 1st at the latest.

Awarding the Scholarships

The special achievements/exceptional qualifications will be verified on the basis of the academic achievements completed within the last 12 months (transcript of records). In addition, a completed or current study period abroad is also recognized as a special achievement. Priority is also given to the educational situation of the family (students who are the first in their family to study and whose parents have no higher qualifications than a secondary school leaving certificate) as well as particularly difficult starting and general conditions for students due to flight or war. Other special social circumstances, activities in academic or student self-administration and voluntary work are also used as selection criteria. First-semester students are selected on the basis of their A-level grades. For foreign students, the degree of need is taken into account in the case of equivalent performance.

Grants are awarded by a central selection committee on the basis of the above criteria. There is no legal entitlement to a grant.

Note for BAföG Recipients

The approval of scholarships may be taken into account as income when granting benefits under the BAföG. The  BAföG department of the Studentenwerk Osnabrück can provide binding information on this.
