Welcome Week for International Exchange Students

Our Welcome Week for new international exchange students at Osnabrück University in the summer semester 2025 will take place from April 7 to 12, 2025. During this time, you can expect a varied program with information events, city and campus tours, get-togethers and various excursions.

Please note that the virtual event "Introduction to UOS library services" on Friday, April 11, 2025 has been canceled. Instead, you will receive the presentation file via e-mail.

Welcome Week program in the summer semester 2025

8:30 am - 9:30 pm | Welcome session for new exchange students

Meeting point: building 15, room E16, Seminarstr. 20

  • Distribution of information folders/bags
  • Payment for international breakfast (€7) and excursion to Bremen (€3)
  • Welcome
  • Excursion programme
  • Division into groups for registration at Citizens’ Office (Bürgeramt) and campus tour

10 am | Help with late admissions, campus cards, Certificates of Arrival

Meeting point: building 19, International Office

11 am - approx. 1:30 pm | Registration at the Citizens' Office or campus tour

Meeting point: Stadthaus, Natruper-Tor-Wall 5, Osnabrück

Only for students who have an appointment!

Individually scheduled appointments. Please bring:

  • Your booking ticket
  • Your passport
  • Confirmation from your landlord/landlady (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung)

1:30 pm - 3:30 pm | Opening of bank account - part 1

Meeting point: building 15, room E16, Seminarstr. 20

Please bring:

  • Your passport
  • Your registration certificate, which you received at the Bürgeramt
  • Tax identification number for American students (TIN)
  • German tax ID (if not yet received, this must be submitted to the bank)

9 am - 11 am | Digital Application for Residence Permit with the Foreigners' Office (Ausländerbehörde)

Meeting point: building 15, room E16, Seminarstr. 20

Only for students who entered Germany without a visa or with a short-term visa!

Please bring:

  • Scan of your passport
  • Scan of the entry stamp (if no visa was required for entry)
  • Scan of your enrollment certificate
  • Scan of the admission to study in Osnabrück
  • Scan of the visa if available
  • Scan of health insurance, proof of funding, scholarship certificate (if applicable)
  • Scan of confirmation from your landlord/landlady (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung)
  • Registration confirmation (City of Osnabrück)

If a document is not available as a scan, it can also be scanned directly with a smartphone camera during the registration process at the Foreigners’ Office (Ausländerbehörde).

Please bring a laptop or tablet!

9 am - 9:45 am | Information on Osnabrück Student Services' halls of residence and help with formalities, presentation of the dormitory tutors

Only for students living in the halls of residence of Osnabrück Student Services (Studierendenwerk)!

10:30 am - 11:30 am | Placement test for German courses

Meeting point: building 94 (Campus Westerberg, Nelson-Mandela-Str. 4), room E03

Only for exchange students from partner universities who would like to take a German course throughout the semester. Not necessary for beginners!

4 pm - 6 pm | City tour

Meeting point: in front of the StudiOs building (building 19)

10 am - 10:45 am | Presentation on "Working in Germany" (virtual event)

Meeting point:  Virtual conference room

11 am - 12 pm | Workshop: Academic Culture in Germany (virtual event)

Only for non-EU students residing in Osnabrück who have an appointment.

Please go directly to the Foreigners’ Office (Ausländerbehörde) at Natruper-Tor-Wall 5, 49076 Osnabrück in good time for your appointment. 

This appointment is only for students who submitted their documents at the first appointment on April 07, 2025!

Please bring:

  • A biometric passport photo with a light background

  • 100€ in cash (not for Erasmus/DAAD scholarship holders)

  • Your passport
