Andrea Maciejewski was newly elected to the board of the Osnabrück University Society at the last general meeting.

"As a former law student at Osnabrück University, as head of the credit department for corporate customers at Sparkasse Osnabrück and as Andrea Maciejewski, who has been very happy to call Osnabrück home for over 20 years, I am closely interwoven with the city, the university and the companies of Osnabrück."

At the last Board meeting, Frederick Beckmann was unanimously elected as the new Deputy Chair of the Osnabrück University Society. He succeeds Nancy Plaßmann in office. Frederick Beckmann is CEO and member of the Executive Board of Q1 Energie AG.

"I am delighted to be able to make a contribution to promoting and strengthening our university and thus Osnabrück University as a science and business location in my role as Deputy Chairman of the University Society."

Lena Büker is CEO at ehorses GmbH & Co KG. As a member of the board of the University Society, she supports Osnabrück University through her voluntary work.

"I am delighted to support the board of the Osnabrück University Society, as education is the key to developing a strong society. Together, we can strengthen the educational landscape, drive innovation and continue to advance science in Osnabrück and support young people along the way."

Since November 1, 2022, Wolfgang Griesert, former Lord Mayor of the City of Osnabrück, has been the new honorary chairman of the Osnabrück University Society.

"Osnabrück University has been an invigorating factor in our city for almost 50 years. The members of the University Society promote Osnabrück as an academic location through a wide range of projects and events, while also supporting students, young academics and international exchange. I look forward to working with the University's Presidential Board to identify potential and take advantage of opportunities to further strengthen the connection between science and teaching with the city's society and the appeal of the university's schools and institutes," said Griesert.

Appeal for donations "Ukraine Emergency Fund"

In March last year, Osnabrück University and the Osnabrück University Society jointly set up an emergency fund for students and academics affected by the current war. The University Society kicked off the fundraising campaign with a donation of €10,000 and many others joined in and donated. Whether students, private individuals or companies in our region, everyone got involved - so that over €55,000 was raised!

The newly created emergency fund will support international students at our university who have found themselves in an emergency situation due to the war in Ukraine so that they can successfully continue their studies. In addition, the University and the University Society would like to offer students and academics at our university who have fled and are threatened by the war a perspective to continue their studies or research activities in Osnabrück University as part of guest stays. The emergency fund provides short-term, fast and unbureaucratic immediate and bridging assistance for those affected by the war in Ukraine.

Amendment to the funding guidelines of the Osnabrück University Society

On the advice of the university management, the Executive Board of the University Society has decided to amend and adapt the funding guidelines. The aim of these changes is to provide students and young academics with the greatest possible support and funding for active conference participation or lecture travel.

To briefly outline the changes:

  • Due to the fact that funding opportunities for lectureships were only accessed very irregularly, this passage was deleted. Instead:
  • Grants for travel and accommodation costs as well as conference fees have been increased from the previous 50% to 80%.
  • At the same time, the upper grant limits were increased and set as follows: within Germany and Europe to €800 and outside Europe to €1,300.

We support projects!

With this flyer, the Osnabrück University Society draws attention to a new way of providing support.

Whether charitable, impulse-giving, voluntary or sustainable, the Universitätsgesellschaft has set itself the task of supporting the University of Osnabrück both ideally and materially. Since not all projects of all financial sizes can be supported by funds from the Universitätsgesellschaft alone, we are looking for a partner for your project. This can be a foundation, a company or even a private individual - we have an extensive network at our disposal.

Appeal for donations - a complete success!

After the appeal for donations from Osnabrück University reached the University Society, which aimed to support students in need in times of the corona pandemic through the Social Fund for Osnabrück Students (SOS e.V.), we asked our members for support.

We were overwhelmed by the positive response in what were difficult times for everyone involved and were able to raise a considerable amount of donations in a short space of time, which the University Society topped up to €25,000. The University Society was thus able to show that its members form an active community that stands by "our university" in difficult times.
