Jurisprudence is the science of law, its manifestations, its application and its effects. The doctoral program offers outstanding students the opportunity to conduct research in all areas of law and at the same time offers them courses that systematically support their progress and enable them to complete a doctorate within a reasonable period of time. The program is part of a concept for the promotion of young researchers that spans the individual professorships and institutes of the department, through which the research achievements of the individual doctoral students are networked and supported.

Students can get to know and apply new approaches to legal research in dialog with supervisors and other doctoral candidates. To broaden their own research perspective, discover intra- and interdisciplinary connections and develop their own personality, students can attend numerous regularly offered doctoral seminars and colloquia, workshops and many other events from the four profile areas of the doctoral program (European and International Law, Business and Tax Law, Commercial Criminal Law and State, Administration, Economics).

A Doctorate in the field of law not only opens the way to a career at universities, colleges and research institutes. A career in law firms, companies, ministries and the judiciary can also be greatly boosted by a Doctorate. It demonstrates the ability to carry out independent research and thus to work methodically and innovatively, as well as showing perseverance and discipline. A certificate is awarded for successful participation in the doctoral program, which demonstrates structured doctoral studies, in-depth knowledge in the chosen profile area and the achievements made.
