The Bachelor's degree course in Islamic Theology at Osnabrück University is the first in Germany to offer the opportunity to study the Muslim religion academically. The course focuses on the fundamentals of Islam, Koranic studies and the prophetic tradition as well as Islamic jurisprudence and its methodology.
The Bachelor's degree course in Islamic Theology at Osnabrück University is the first in Germany to offer the opportunity to study the Muslim religion academically. The central contents of the course are the basic beliefs of Islam, Quran science and the prophetic tradition as well as Islamic jurisprudence and its methodology. In addition, classical Arabic and didactic and interreligious skills are taught. Further focal points are comparative studies (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) as well as the theoretical and empirical analysis of Islam in Germany and Europe in a historical and modern context.
Students are required to complete a two- to four-week internship during their studies. The various institutions of Muslim life in Germany are suitable for this.
With the "Islamic Theology" degree course, Osnabrück University is pursuing the goal of training Muslim theologians in Germany. Graduates form the next generation of academics and, simultaneously, have career prospects as specialists for theological, religious and community education and pastoral work in mosque communities. In addition, successful graduation offers opportunities to enter professions in the fields of science, politics, business and media as well as in social and charitable areas. The "Islamic Theology" course is open to students of all religions and denominations. However, Muslim faith is often a decisive criterion for entry into certain professions.
