Application-relevant certificates must be submitted in full, i.e. certificates, grade and subject overviews, certificate attachments (front and back pages for double-sided printing) and, if applicable, diploma supplement. All components of the individual educational certificates must be present. Please note whether   country- or certificate-specific requirements apply to you.
  • Language certificates: Please refer to the respective admission regulations for information on the subject-specific and language access requirements and the  entrance requirements for international students. Please also refer to the  admission regulations to find out whether your desired degree program requires special documents or the fulfillment of further access requirements (e.g. aptitude test)
  • Translations: Foreign-language documents must be translated into German or English by   sworn translators. Please upload the original language certificates in addition to the official translation.
  • APS certificate: If your certificates come from China, India or Vietnam, uploading the  APS certificate is mandatory when applying.
  • Program-specific documents: In general, please refer to the respective  admission regulations. For some degree programs, for example, a letter of motivation or CV must be submitted.

Master of Science Cognitive Science: An  additional application form (PDF, 116 kB) is available for the Master's degree program in Cognitive Science . Fill it out and upload it to My assist as well.

Artistic degree programs: Remember to register for the  aptitude test .

You create an application at   My assist. Enter your personal details and  select the desired degree program. Upload your documents. Pay the application fee (€ 75 for the first degree program and € 30 for each additional degree program).

On the uni-assist website you will find a   tutorial on how to create your application and   pay the costs.

Uni-assist needs 4-6 weeks to check your documents.  On this page you will find the  current processing times of uni-assist. If the application is subsequently submitted to Osnabrück University, the review may also take several weeks.

Uni-assist will pre-check your application documents for the university and inform you of the result in an evaluation result. If all documents are complete and you meet the formal requirements, uni-assist will forward your application to Osnabrück University.

The positive evaluation result does NOT constitute admission!  Study places are allocated within the university.

If your documents do not yet meet the formal admission criteria, you will also be informed by uni-assist. You will then have to reapply the following year/semester to study at Osnabrück University or for the admission procedure at the preparatory course (Studienkolleg).

Use the evaluation result for yourself!

Tip on visas: With a positive evaluation result from uni-assist, you can apply for a student applicant visa, which you can have converted into a residence permit for study purposes in Osnabrück. Contact your local German consulate or embassy to find out whether this option is available to you.

Tip on accommodation: Once you have received the evaluation result, you can apply to the Osnabrück Student Services for a  place in a hall of residence. The waiting lists for halls of residence are long. It is therefore advisable to get on the waiting list as early as possible. This does not initially commit you financially. On this page you will find further  information about housing.

You will be informed of admission, exclusion or rejection by e-mail from Osnabrück University.

This happens as soon as the decision from the responsible admission committee regarding your application to Osnabrück University has been made and the Admissions Office has been informed.

With your admission you get access to the application portal of Osnabrück University. Log in and complete the online enrollment.

Do not create a new application at Osnabrück University's application portal, but use the data and instructions sent to you in the admissions email.

FAQs uni-assist application procedure

The association uni-assist e.V. is used by around 170 German universities and specializes in the preliminary examination of international applications. The central task of the association is to check international educational certificates with regard to their equivalence to the German education system. In addition, uni-assist e.V. checks specific entrance requirements (e.g. language skills) of the universities. Thanks to many years of practical experience and the processing of numerous applications, uni-assist e.V. has developed extensive expertise in this area. The final examination of the content and the final selection decision as to who is offered a study place, takes place at the university itself.

Depending on the country, the examination can take up to eight weeks. We therefore recommend that you apply early.
On this page you will find the   current processing times of uni-asisst.

Yes, you can find information on how to  submit documents later on the uni-assist website.

Under certain conditions, admission to a Master's degree program is also possible if the first degree has not yet been completed at the time of application, but it is expected that the degree will be completed during the first Master's semester.

Once uni-assist has forwarded your application to the university, the admission procedure will take place there. Please understand that this may take a few weeks. You can find out more about the procedure for international Bachelor's and Master's degree courses on our page on the  allocation of study places to international prospective students.

There are usually three reasons for this.

  • Firstly: The application process has not yet started. As long as Osnabrück University has not started the application procedure, you cannot select the degree program.
  • Secondly: You have to enter the search criteria differently. Proceed as follows - enter the desired semester, select Osnabrück University under university, select the degree, click on "search" and select the appropriate degree program from the list.
  • Thirdly: Have you chosen the right university? There are two universities in Osnabrück. Make sure you select Osnabrück University under university.

You can find all information on this on the  entrance requirements page.

If you do not have a recognized C1 German certificate at the time of application, you can apply with a B2 certificate. If your application is successful, you will be admitted to the degree program. However, you must submit a C1 certificate upon enrollment. Please also read the   information on recognized German certificates.

You can find all information you need on our page  Language certificates.

You can find out which foreign language skills and which German language skills you need to prove for your desired degree program in the respective  admission regulations or on the  entrance requirements page.

In most cases, the completion of a degree program with the language of instruction being English is sufficient proof of English language proficiency. Please refer to the  admission regulations of your chosen degree program for more information.

Please note that you must submit proof that English was the language of instruction. This can usually be found in the Transcript of Records or the Diploma Supplement.

In this case, no translation is necessary.

This question cannot be answered in advance. Applications for Master's degree programs are reviewed by the relevant admission committee of the schools after a formal preliminary review by uni-assist and the Admissions Office.

Please understand that this process can take several weeks. As soon as the selection committee has made its decision, you will receive a letter of admission or a letter of exclusion or rejection.

Osnabrück University offers both restricted and non-restriced Bachelor's and Master's degree programs.

Non-restricted means that the grade is not relevant for the allocation of study places. If you meet all the formal criteria, you will be awarded a study place.

Restricted admission means that the grade is decisive for the allocation of study places, in addition to the formal criteria. In this case, a ranking list is drawn up according to grade. The two Master's in Psychology are a special case. Points are awarded here. Please read more about this in the  admission regulations for the Master's in Psychology.

Please take a look at our  list of admission-restricted degree programs to check whether your desired degree program is admission-restricted.

You can also find more information on the  allocation of study places for prospective international students on this page.

You do not need to submit a separate declaration. The declaration is part of the online questionnaire at uni-assist and you must click there to confirm that you have not lost your right to take the examination.
