Old District Administration Office (Altes Kreishaus)
The Old District Administration Office (Altes Kreishaus), opposite the OsnabrückHalle, is home to the university’s philological institutes. As the name of the building suggests, the Old District Administration Office was the seat of the district administration before being used by the university. Built in the 1950s, it housed the administration staff and even had two official residences. With the construction of the new district administration office building on the Schölerberg in the 1980s, the building was made vacant, allowing Department 7 to move in there in 1984.
Plans for the university to take over the building were already initiated in the 1970s. The building was renovated and converted for university use. Traces of its previous history are still visible today - for example, a mural in the foyer of the building reminds us of its former function as the seat of the district administration.
