Lyrastraße / Seminarstraße

The former "House of Agriculture" now houses the Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies (IMIS) as well as Geography. In the mid-1990s, it was possible to expand the downtown area in close proximity to the Castle and EW building for various university purposes by adapting the existing building and constructing another new one adjacent to it. The most striking feature of the building is its glass front, which was added during the 16-month renovation works and has, since 1996, provided students of history and geography with a view of the EW building and Lyrastraße.

Until 2019, the building also housed the Institute for Early Modern Intercultural Studies (IKFN), which was officially opened on December 5, 1996 together with the building itself – although it had already existed since 1992. Then-President Rainer Künzel commented wryly: "A university is more than concrete [...], as beautiful and necessary as it is to have buildings in sufficient numbers [...]." He observed that the ministry probably had more interest in the inauguration of buildings that require funding than in institutes, the establishment of which is virtually free.
