Law, Economics and Business Administration
The building complex at the corner of Katharinenstraße/Heger-Tor-Wall/Martinistraße is a former high school for girls (built in 1905/1906 and 1912, central building rebuilt in 1955). This building was already used on a provisional basis by the Pedagogical University , as it had been vacant since the early 1970s. In the early days of the university, it was known as the "Collegiate Building on the Wall" or the "Seminar Building on the Wall."
With the establishment of the new departments of Economics (1979) and Law (1980), the university's demand for building space increased significantly. The buildings in the Heger-Tor-Wall area were intended to fill this gap. They were renovated and restored in the 1980s, so that by the beginning of the 1990s, the departmental library for Law and Economics could move to its new location. Prior to this, the remaining part of the building towards Heger-Tor-Wall and Katharinenstraße had already been renovated and restored. The adjacent lecture hall building was built in 1990/91.
