Botanical Garden

The University's Botanical Garden on the Westerberg plays a particularly important role for biology students. Here, in greenhouses, students can study seedlings and conduct experiments. The tropical greenhouse, built in the 1990s, is the home of innumerable exotic plants right in the middle of Osnabrück.

However, the Botanical Garden is not only popular among students. It has long been a go-to destination for many of Osnabrück’s residents and visitors from the surrounding area. The Botanical Garden was opened in 1984: initially, it consisted of eight greenhouses, a vegetation hall, and a laboratory building. Plans for the construction in the old "Middelberg" quarry began as far back as the late 1970s. From the outset, the Botanical Garden was intended not only for research but as a place that would be accessible to the general public.
