The Vocational Teacher Education degree program consists of courses in the vocational subject area, a general education subject and vocational and business education. The course is structured in stages and begins with the  Bachelor's degree course in Vocational Education. This can be followed by the Master's degree course "Vocational Teacher Education". A new application is required for this. The vocational specialization in Social Education can be studied in combination with one of the following general education subjects: Chemistry, German, English, Protestant Religion, Computer Science, Islamic Religion, Catholic Religion, Mathematics, Physics, Spanish or Sport.

In the subject-didactic part of the degree course and as part of the vocational and business education course, practical training takes place at vocational schools.

The courses impart knowledge about the theoretical foundations of social education, about the addressees and fields of action of social education, about basic pedagogical issues, about the methods of social education research and about the didactics of social education. In addition, important topics in elementary educational learning areas and relevant related disciplines are covered. Furthermore, the course is given a special profile through the teaching of social and administrative law. The degree course in Social Education aims in particular to understand and analyze the multi-layered and complex nature of social education tasks, topics and areas of work and to be able to use this knowledge for the planning and implementation of work-related teaching and learning processes.

The Master of Education qualifies you to enter the period of school-based training called the Referendariat and subsequently for a career as a school teacher.

A course of study in Vocational Teacher Education is divided into several stages. After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Vocational Education, you are required to take a Master in Vocational Education, for which you have to (re)apply. The Master of Education degree is a prerequisite for admission to the period of school-based training called the Referendariat.

You are required to combine a vocational specialization with a general education subject. Information about possible combinations, the content of the program and general program schedules can be accessed at   Vocational Teacher Education.
