Bachelor of Education and Teaching + Master of Secondary Education (Haupt- und Realschule)
Students studying towards a degree in Secondary Teacher Education (Haupt- und Realschule) will first study the six-semester-long degree program Bachelor of Education and Teaching. You are required to choose a further subject in addition to this subject. Subsequently, you have to take the four-semester-long degree program Master of Secondary Education (Haupt- und Realschule) in the same subjects, for which you must (re)apply. The Master of Education degree is a prerequisite for admission to the period of school-based training called the Referendariat.
The close links between the sub-disciplines of linguistics, literature and cultural studies are an outstanding feature of English and American Studies at Osnabrück.

The close connection between the sub-disciplines of linguistics, literature and cultural studies is an outstanding feature of English and American Studies at Osnabrück. Research and teaching focus on a wide range of subjects: the English Renaissance (with an emphasis on Shakespeare), "Late Modern English", construction grammar, English-language literature for children and young people, American literature and culture (including visual media), contemporary British culture and English vocabulary and its teaching.
A course of study in Secondary Teacher Education (Haupt- und Realschule) is divided into several stages. After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Education and Teaching, you are required to take a Master in Secondary Education (Haupt- und Realschule), for which you have to (re)apply. The Master of Education degree is a prerequisite for admission to the period of school-based training called the Referendariat.

Bachelor of Education and Teaching
The general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur) entitles you to study at Osnabrück University without restriction. The term "undergraduate" refers to a course of study that leads to a first professionally qualifying university degree (Bachelor's degree or First State Examination in Law). You must provide proof of sufficient written and spoken English language skills with your application.

Master of Education
To apply for the Master's degree program Secondary Teacher Education (Haupt- und Realschule), you must have a qualified Bachelor's degree in Education. In addition, a sufficient level of English and knowledge of another foreign language must be demonstrated. Bachelor of Education and Teaching
German and international applicants with German certification can enroll directly for this subject that does not have admission restrictions. You can find all information on enrollment and the enrollment deadline for the desired semester under Bachelor's degree programs (two subjects) - open admission.
Important: If one of the subjects in your chosen subject combination has admission restrictions and you are therefore obliged to submit an application for it, you must also enroll for the subject that does not have admission restrictions within the Application Deadline for the subject that does have admission restrictions!

Students studying for a Master of Secondary Education (Haupt- und Realschule) must provide proof of a three-month study-related stay abroad in an English-speaking country when registering for the final Master's examination. The International Office is the point of contact for questions about studying abroad.
Studying at Osnabrück University means you will be subject to semester fees. Depending on how much of your study credit (standard period of study plus tolerance semester) you have used up, you may also have to pay long-term study fees.
