Bachelor of Vocational Education + Master of Vocational Education
Students studying towards a degree in Vocational Teacher Education will first study the six-semester-long degree program Bachelor of Vocational Education. You are required to combine a vocational specialization with a general education subject. Subsequently, you have to take the four-semester-long degree program Master of Vocational Education in the same subjects, for which you must (re)apply. The Master of Education degree is a prerequisite for admission to the period of school-based training called the Referendariat.
Catholic theology is the science of the Christian faith. The focus of the course is on the argumentative examination of the phenomena of religion and faith, the biblically guaranteed Judeo-Christian tradition, the history of Christianity, Christian practice in society, church and school as well as interreligious issues. Students acquire biblical-historical, systematic-theological and practical-theological skills.

Master of Education
Catholic theology is the science of the Christian faith. The focus of the course is on the argumentative examination of the phenomena of religion and faith, the biblically guaranteed Judeo-Christian tradition, the history of Christianity, Christian practice in society, church and school as well as interreligious issues. Students acquire biblical-historical, systematic-theological and practical-theological skills.
Research focuses on Jewish-Christian dialogue, biblical hermeneutics, ecumenical theology, bioethics, religious socialization, upbringing and education, religious development in the second half of life and selected fields of religious didactics.
The Master of Education qualifies you to enter the period of school-based training called the Referendariat and subsequently for a career as a school teacher.
This course does not require church membership. However, in order to obtain a teaching license as a Catholic religious education teacher, you must be a member of the Catholic Church. The teaching license ("Missio canonica") will be issued to you by the Diocese of Osnabrück before you start working as a teacher. In preparation, you will be supervised by the diocese's mentoring service during your studies. Please contact the mentoring office at the beginning of your studies.

Bachelor of Vocational Education
The German Higher Education Entrance Qualification (Abitur) entitles students to commence a first degree qualification at Osnabrück University. The term “first degree qualification” refers to a period of study that culminates in a student’s first professionally-relevant university degree (Bachelor’s degree or First Legal State Examination). This program is not subject to admission restrictions.
Master of Education
To apply for the Master's degree program in Vocational Teacher Education, you must have a qualified Bachelor's degree in Vocational Education. In addition, you must provide proof of subject-related basic knowledge of Latin by the time you register for the Master's examination. Bachelor of Education and Teaching
German and international applicants with German certification can enroll directly for this subject that does not have admission restrictions. You can find all information on enrollment and the enrollment deadline for the desired semester under Bachelor's degree programs (two subjects) - open admission.
Important: If one of the subjects in your chosen subject combination has admission restrictions and you are therefore obliged to submit an application for it, you must also enroll for the subject that does not have admission restrictions within the Application Deadline for the subject that does have admission restrictions!

The examination regulations do not prescribe an obligatory period of study abroad. However, a number of Options for Studying Abroad are available to you within a range of exchange programs. The International Office will be happy to answer any questions you might have.
Studying at Osnabrück University means you will be subject to semester fees. Depending on how much of your study credit (standard period of study plus tolerance semester) you have used up, you may also have to pay long-term study fees.
