The specialist Master's in Art and Communication deals with contemporary art mediation and aims to develop an artistic and critically reflected practice of mediation. The course deals with contemporary forms of communication and action for the mediation of art. It is based on students' own artistic and creative projects, which they test in a social context and position in academic discourse.

The study program is characterized by a close connection between theory and practice. It is based on the interlocking of artistic practice, academic work and didactic methods. Students are supported by a close practical orientation. Studio work - supported by professionally equipped workshops -, cooperation with local and international cultural institutions and thus the development of individual focuses in the field of art education offer important fields of experience. Current issues in art education are explored in depth in the three elective profiles cultural education, exhibition practice and artistic project work.

The specialist Master's in Art and Communication professionalizes students for careers at the intersection of art and education and trains future mediators in the art context. Graduates will be prepared to successfully help shape and design different mediation situations, e.g. in museums, galleries, art schools, cultural offices and media as well as at universities and research institutions.

Regulations

Every degree has sets of regulations which govern access, admissions, examinations and the structure of the program. More concrete information on the structure of the program is provided here:

To study the specialist Master's degree in Art and Communication, students must have completed a Bachelor's degree course of at least six semesters in Art or Art Education with at least 60 credit points. Academic degrees in the fields of cultural studies, media studies and related subjects with artistic-aesthetic components amounting to at least 40 credit points are recognized as equivalent following a case-by-case assessment. Further information on the access requirements can be found in the  admission regulations.

Applicants in possession of international certification must demonstrate sufficient levels of  German Language Proficiency.

This program is not subject to admission restrictions.

The examination regulations do not prescribe an obligatory period of study abroad. However, a number of  Options for Studying Abroad are available to you within a range of exchange programs. The  International Office will be happy to answer any questions you might have.
