Computer Science - Bachelor of Science

Computer science is the science of systematic information processing using computers. Computer science researches the basic procedures of information processing and the general methods of applying such machine processes in a wide variety of areas and attempts to derive general laws from specific circumstances through abstraction and modeling. From this, it develops standard solutions for practical application. It helps with the management of large amounts of data and information, it enables the control of complex production processes and machines, it is an important tool in almost all areas of research and is itself the subject of research.

Computer science is both a basic science and an engineering science. It also has aspects of an experimental science. Although its products are predominantly abstract, they have very concrete applications and effects. Its ways of thinking penetrate all other sciences, lead to new models and ways of representation and give rise to new types of hardware and software systems.

The Bachelor's degree program in Computer Science at Osnabrück University offers a scientifically sound, basic and method-oriented and at the same time strongly practical and application-oriented computer science course with an above-average range of applications. The Institute of Computer Science is characterized by intensive and individual support.

The Computer Science degree program offers a solid basic education in practical, technical and theoretical computer science, leading to a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree.

Computer science is a basic and cross-sectional discipline that draws its foundations from mathematics and engineering and has an impact on all areas of life and application. Students acquire in-depth knowledge of key computer science technologies and develop analytical skills to solve complex problems. This combination offers ideal conditions for a challenging and crisis-proof job - for example in the rapidly expanding information and communication sector in companies, banks, insurance companies, public authorities, companies and management consultancies as well as research institutions.

Students who complete their Bachelor's degree with a Master's degree in the subject will also be qualified to take on management and leadership roles in many research and professional fields.
