Osnabrück University offers a three-year training course to become a psychological psychotherapist with a focus on behavioral therapy for adults. Prerequisites include several years of further training in a scientifically recognized form of therapy. The training is fee-based.

The continuing education degree is characterized by a particularly close interlocking of theory and practice. The practical experience gained in the profession and in the course itself is continuously reflected upon scientifically. Practical therapeutic work forms the most extensive part of the psychotherapy continuing education program. Among other things, participants work in a psychiatric clinic and carry out outpatient therapies under close supervision in the outpatient psychotherapy clinic for adults at an advanced stage of their training. The training qualifies for a license to practice.

In addition to independent work in a psychological practice, independent psychotherapy or the supervision of other professional groups in counseling and therapeutic work areas are also possible. Institutionally, these professional fields can be affiliated with clinical-psychological institutions, medical clinics, inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation facilities.

All information regarding the structure of the degree program can be found on the  psychotherapy website.

The prerequisite is a degree in psychology (or comparable degree) with an examination in clinical psychology. Degrees obtained at foreign universities must be checked to see whether they meet the requirements.

International applicants must provide proof of sufficient knowledge of German.

German and international applicants can find all information on how to apply on the Psychology website under  Access, Application and Costs.

No stay abroad is planned.
