The consecutive specialist Master's degree course is designed as a research-oriented full-time course and leads to a Master of Science degree. In addition to the classic specializations in solid state physics, optics, surface physics, computational physics and theoretical physics, great importance is attached to interdisciplinary contact with neighboring disciplines - especially where physical aspects and mathematical-quantitative relationships are important in modern research. These include in particular the fields of biophysics, physical chemistry and nanostructured matter.
Physicists can find jobs at universities, in large research institutes, in industry, in the software sector or in management consultancy. Physicists with extensive knowledge of computer science are particularly sought after on the job market. Those who complete a Master's degree in the subject following their Bachelor's degree will also be qualified to take on management and leadership roles in the aforementioned professions and fields of activity.
The access requirement is a qualified Bachelor's degree in "Physics" or a dual-subject degree program with a predominantly physics component and a suitable second subject or a thematically comparable degree program. Proof of English language skills must also be provided. The courses are held in English.
