International understanding and successful social integration are decisively determined by linguistic factors. Language is not only a common means of interaction, but also an important identity-forming characteristic.

The course focuses on migration and integration in Europe as well as language and cognition.
The course concentrates on the European linguistic and cultural area, but also allows students to study certain non-European linguistic and cultural areas. With regard to the intended inclusion of migrant languages, it is therefore also planned to study a potential contact language, which can be acquired or optimized at the Language Centre.

The consecutive specialist Master's degree course is designed as a research-oriented full-time course with 120 credit points and is completed with a Master's thesis and the degree "Master of Arts".

Graduates of the "Language in Europe" degree course qualify for future fields of work in university and non-university research. Thanks to their linguistic training coupled with language and cultural knowledge, they are also ideally suited for the professional fields of education, in particular adult education, communication, translation, editing, research and documentation, administration and politics as well as areas of art and culture. They can also be employed in the development and implementation of integration programs.
