Bachelor of Education and Teaching + Master of Primary Education (Grundschule)
Students studying towards a degree in Primary Teacher Education (Grundschule) will first study the six-semester-long degree program Bachelor of Education and Teaching. You are required to choose a further subject in addition to this subject. Subsequently, you have to take the four-semester-long degree program Master of Primary Education (Grundschule) in the same subjects, for which you must (re)apply. The Master of Education degree is a prerequisite for admission to the period of school-based training called the Referendariat.
German studies as a discipline of the humanities researches, documents and communicates the German language and literature in its historical and contemporary manifestations. Modern German studies is regarded as a combination of two sub-subjects, linguistics and modern German literature. In addition to these academic components, the course also includes German didactics.

German studies as a discipline of the humanities researches, documents and communicates the German language and literature in its historical and contemporary manifestations. Modern German Studies is regarded as a combination of three sub-disciplines: linguistics, older literary studies (medieval studies) and more recent literary studies of German.
At Osnabrück University, the subject is divided into the areas of literature and linguistics and covers the entire spectrum of German literature and language. Focal points include epochs of German literature and genre theory, literature for children and young people, text interpretation, grammatical structures of German, orthography, first and second language acquisition, medieval and early modern literature. The didactics of German deals with the teaching of this subject content in elementary school.
A course of study in Primary Teacher Education (Grundschule) is divided into several stages. After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Education and Teaching, you are required to take a Master’s degree in Primary Education (Grundschule), for which you have to (re)apply. Bachelor of Education and Teaching
The German Higher Education Entrance Qualification (Abitur) entitles students to commence a first degree qualification at Osnabrück University. The term “first degree qualification” refers to a period of study that culminates in a student’s first professionally-relevant university degree (Bachelor’s degree or First Legal State Examination). Master of Education
To apply for the Master's degree program in Primary Teacher Education (Grundschule), you must have a qualified Bachelor's degree in Education.
