English - Vocational Teacher Education

Bachelor of Vocational Education + Master of Vocational Education

Students studying towards a degree in Vocational Teacher Education will first study the six-semester-long degree program Bachelor of Vocational Education. You are required to combine a vocational specialization with a general education subject. Subsequently, you have to take the four-semester-long degree program Master of Vocational Education in the same subjects, for which you must (re)apply. The Master of Education degree is a prerequisite for admission to the period of school-based training called the Referendariat.

The English and American Studies department in Osnabrück is characterized by a close integration of the sub-disciplines of linguistics, literature and cultural studies. Research and teaching focus on the English Renaissance (with an emphasis on Shakespeare), "Late Modern English", construction grammar, English-language literature for children and young people, American literature and culture (including visual media), contemporary British culture and English vocabulary and its communication.

The Master of Education qualifies you to enter the period of school-based training called the Referendariat and subsequently for a career as a school teacher.

A course of study in Vocational Teacher Education is divided into several stages. After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Vocational Education, you are required to take a Master in Vocational Education, for which you have to (re)apply. The Master of Education degree is a prerequisite for admission to the period of school-based training called the Referendariat.

The following regulations apply to persons with an existing university degree in electrical engineering, metals engineering/mechanical engineering, nursing science or social education:

General information about university admissions may be accessed at  Admission Requirements. Applicants in possession of international certification must demonstrate sufficient levels of  German Language Proficiency.

Bachelor of Vocational Education

The general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur) entitles you to study at Osnabrück University without restriction. In addition, a sufficient level of English must be demonstrated. The term "undergraduate" refers to a course of study that leads to a first professionally qualifying university degree (Bachelor's degree or First State Examination in Law). Master of Education

Application for the Master's degree program Vocational Teacher Education requires a qualified Bachelor's degree in Vocational Education. In addition, a sufficient level of English must be demonstrated. Further information can be found in the  admission regulations for the Master's degree course.

Bachelor of Education and Teaching

German and international applicants with German certification can enroll directly for this subject that does not have admission restrictions. You can find all information on enrollment and the enrollment deadline for the desired semester under  Bachelor's degree programs (two subjects) - open admission.

Important: If one of the subjects in your chosen subject combination has admission restrictions and you are therefore obliged to submit an application for it, you must also enroll for the subject that does not have admission restrictions within the  Application Deadline for the subject that does have admission restrictions!

Please note: different application conditions and deadlines may apply for  Applicants with Non-German Certification!

Master of Education

German and international applicants can find all information about the application and the application deadline for the desired semester under  Master's degree programs (two subjects).

Students with the study objective Master of Education for the Master of Vocational Education must provide proof of a three-month study-related stay abroad in an English-speaking country when registering for the Master's final examination. The  International Office is the point of contact for questions about studying abroad.

Studying at Osnabrück University means you will be subject to semester fees. Depending on how much of your study credit (standard period of study plus tolerance semester) you have used up, you may also have to pay long-term study fees.
