German Skilled Labour in the Context of Digital Transformation: Insights into the Technology Readiness of Selected Groups
Description
The world of work is characterized by technological change processes that lead to the emergence of new business processes, workflows and communication channels, among other things (e.g. Ramin, 2022; Bejaković & Mrnjavac, 2020).
Digital change is not a target state, but a self-accelerating process in which the adaptability of companies and employees is fundamental.
Companies and employees are called upon to respond to the pressure to transform and to proactively shape change. The targeted qualification of skilled workers is becoming increasingly important (Ramin, 2022; Nägele & Ertl, 2023). The “human factor”, i.e. the employees themselves, plays an important role in the digital transformation. For this reason, the project addresses the perspective of employees in relation to digital change, particularly with regard to the use of new technologies.
The aim of this project is to analyze the technology readiness of selected groups of skilled workers in Germany. Key aspects such as technology acceptance, technology competence beliefs and technology control beliefs are correlated with the employees' professional self-efficacy using the technology acceptance model (Neyer, Felber & Gebhardt, 2016).
The survey is conducted in the form of an online questionnaire, the distribution of which is supported by the DIHK-Bildungs-GmbH and IHK Osnabrück - Emsland - Grafschaft Bentheim.
