Guided tour: "The 'desert' lives"
The Osnabrück district of "Wüste" (desert) owes its name to the former marshy nature of the area outside the city gates in the Middle Ages. After being drained, the area was used for various purposes over the centuries: The desert was developed agriculturally and later industrially, and in the 20th century it was even used as a "rubbish dump" before it increasingly developed into a residential neighbourhood. Despite the changes, the original character of the neighbourhood can still be recognised.
During the tour, around 25 participants were given an insight into student life and the student services provided by the student union in the early days of Osnabrück University. At the same time, there were exciting impressions of the rich flora and fauna of the desert, which still characterises the district today.
