Guided tour "Between tradition and modernity"
The tour centres on the former prince-bishop's castle, which was mainly used for administrative purposes in the 19th and first half of the 20th century. After the inglorious episode as the location of the Osnabrück Gestapo during the Third Reich, the castle, which was largely destroyed in the Second World War, was rebuilt in the early 1950s for the purposes of the pedagogical college. When Osnabrück University was founded, it essentially became the seat of the university management and administration.
The guided tour will focus on the use of the astle in the second half of the 20th century as the seat of the pedagogical college and, above all, the university, as well as the art historical aspects of the "original" baroque castle and the castle rebuilt for the needs of a university.
