Frequently asked questions about examinations
A distinction is made between
- academic achievements (course certificates),
- course-related examinations and
- final theses (Bachelor's/Master's thesis).
The form in which coursework or examinations can be completed can be found in the module descriptions. To the regulations and module handbooks for the respective degree programme.
You must register for regular examinations and coursework via the campus management system HISinONE during the registration period of the respective semester.
Please note the regulations for exam registrations in the School of Mathematics/Computer Science/Physics:
- The registration periods for seminars, practical courses and other courses with examinations during the semester start at the beginning of each lecture period and end four weeks later.
- The registration periods for courses with a final examination (e.g. written or oral examination) begin on June 1st for the summer semester and on December 1st for the winter semester. They end one week before the corresponding examination date.
- With regard to the registration deadlines for the second examination dates/repeat dates, please inform yourself in good time in HISinOne about the examination offer of the respective subject (button “Examination offer (total)”).
- Registration periods for final module examinations begin in the last week of lectures of the current semester and end after the second week of the lecture-free period.
- Please note that there may be other individual registration periods. These can be found under Examination dates and deadlines.
The examination regulations for your degree programme.
If you change universities, spend a semester abroad or change subjects internally, you can have your achievements recognised upon written application to the Examination Board. The recognised credits will be recorded accordingly. To the application form recognition of (external) achievments (PDF, 154 kB).
Withdrawal from an examination must be requested. Please note the information on withdrawing from examinations and use the form for determining incapacity to take examinations due to illness (PDF, 184 kB). Submitting a certificate of incapacity for work (medical certificate) is not sufficient.
Depending on the examination regulations, different requirements must be met in order to register for the Bachelor's thesis; please refer to the examination regulations that apply to you. If the requirements are met, an application for admission (registration) can be submitted in writing to the Examination Office at any time.
Theses can only be accepted at the Examinations Office during the specified office hours. If you do not see anyone there, you can alternatively contact the university's post office. You also have the option of submitting your thesis by post. The item must be sent by registered post; the date of the postmark is valid. The address is:
