In urgent cases, when further work is not possible and your IT contact person at the institute/department is unavailable, please contact the department's central IT office. It is located at Seminarstraße 20, room 15-239, and is usually open during the stated hours. If the office is unoccupied, we are probably out on another support request. In this case, please send an email to mtiesmey@uni-osnabrueck.de or leave a message on the answering machine with a brief description of the problem.

Support and appointment requests are best submitted via email to mtiesmey@uni-osnabrueck.de . Please try to describe your issue as precisely as possible. Many problems can be resolved simply by providing written instructions via email. We strive to respond to all inquiries as quickly as possible.

The department's IT support can be reached at extension 4622. If the office is unattended, please leave a message on the answering machine with a brief description of the problem. We will return your call.
via remote maintenance:
Using the remote maintenance program "TeamViewer," we have the option of accessing your computer with your express consent. During the remote maintenance session, you can see what changes are being made to your computer. The session can be ended at any time by closing the remote maintenance program.

Self-Service
On the computer center's AZ pages, you'll find numerous instructions for central services such as email, Wi-Fi, home directory, VPN, and more. Many questions about Stud.IP are answered on the VirtUOS Center 's homepage .
School 1 provides researchers and students with network licenses for specific applications for their projects. To use the software, you must complete a user agreement for the respective product and send it by email to cip01adm@uni-osnabrueck.de .

In addition, you can use additional software via the computer center or the library , which is made centrally available to all university members.
For use in research and teaching, there is a wealth of excellent open-source or freeware software available, which, in terms of functionality and user-friendliness, are usually just as good as expensive commercial products. Therefore, we would like to point out free software, which is generally available for various operating systems:
LibreOffice : A complete office suite with word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software. The package's "LibreOffice Draw" program allows for PDF files. LibreOffice is largely compatible with Microsoft Office. extensive editing of
PDFGear: Free software with many options for PDF editing files or converting them to other formats. It includes an interesting AI tool, for example , to ask questions about the content or display a quick summary.
GIMP : Professional image editing and manipulation tool with similar functionality to Adobe Photoshop.
Krita: A free painting and drawing program that also includes extensive image editing features.
Paint.net: Another highly recommended image editing tool, but only for Windows systems. Despite its extensive feature set, it's particularly small and therefore quick to install and launch.
Inkscape: Design software for creating vector graphics. The program is suitable for creating documents such as posters, flyers, logos, technical diagrams, maps, city plans, and lettering.
Scribus: A page layout program that allows for flexible document design with free placement of text and images within frames. Master pages and layers can be created.
PDF Creator: Free program to PDF documents from virtually any application. create
PDF-TKBuilder: Tool to split, merge, or rearrange PDF documents. Mozilla Firefox: Leading browser that can be extended with a variety of add-ons. Mozilla Thunderbird: Free email client with a wide range of features.
7-Zip: file archives of almost all common formats (zip, rar, tar-gz, iso, etc. ). Small, very fast tool to compress and unpack
Redo-Rescue : Back up, restore or clone entire computers in just a few simple steps.
PSPP : Free statistical software aiming to be a 100% compatible SPSS alternative.
R-Studio: RStudio is a development environment and graphical user interface for the statistical programming language R.
Zotero : Open Source Literature Management. Alternative to Endnote or Citavi.
noScribe: noScribe is an AI -based open-source software for transcribing interviews for qualitative social research. The software runs entirely locally and is therefore data-protection-free. It can distinguish between different speakers and understands up to 99 languages.
Ubuntu Linux : A particularly user-friendly Linux operating system as a replacement for Microsoft Windows. It allows even older computers to be equipped with a modern system.

If your printer stops working, your PC won't boot, or there is another problem with your hardware or software, please contact our IT support team.
