Towards Enrolment

Paths towards admission into the university vary. Regardless of what those paths look like, you will have to fulfill a number of requirements before you are allowed to enrol at the university. The most relevant are:

• a high school diploma giving you the general higher education entrance qualification, i.e. for bachelor's degree programs;
• a higher education diploma for enrolment into graduate prorams, e.g. master's degree programs;
• language proficiency (usually German language proficiency at C1 level);
• degree-specific admission requirements (e.g. English language proficiency at C1 level for enrolment in an English and American Studies degree program).

Higher Education Standards

You have a high school or higher education diploma, but having fled your home country you do not have the documents to prove it? In these cases, you may take an admission test at the Studienkolleg Hannover. If you pass the test and have proof of sufficient German language proficiency (level B1/B2), you may enrol in a one-year program to gain access to higher education facilities, such as universities. If you pass the admission test with excellent results (85 percent in the mathematics portion) and have a level C1 of German language proficiency, you may also enrol in unrestricted degree programs without a diploma.
