Call for applications for the Lower Saxony state scholarship (Landesstipendium Niedersachsen) 2023
Osnabrück University has awarded 139 scholarships of €500 (one-off payment) in the winter semester 2023/2024 as part of a scholarship program set up by the state of Lower Saxony.
The scholarships were awarded in accordance with a guideline of Osnabrück University (PDF, 135 kB) pursuant to § 3 Section 1 Sentence 1 No. 8 NHG based on special achievements or outstanding aptitude, outstanding voluntary work and to promote international cooperation in higher education and exchange between German and foreign universities, with special consideration of the interests of foreign students.
Eligible applicants were those who
1. were enrolled in the winter semester 2023/2024 in an undergraduate degree program (Bachelor, state examination) or in a consecutive Master's degree program at Osnabrück University with the aim of graduating.
2. had not exceeded the standard period of study at the beginning of the winter semester 2023/2024.
3. and did not receive any other scholarship from public funds.
Criteria for awarding the scholarships
The special achievements/exceptional qualifications were to be proven on the basis of the academic achievements completed within the last 12 months (overview of achievements). In addition, a completed or current study period abroad was recognized as a special achievement. Priority was also given to the family's educational situation (students who are the first in their family to study and whose parents have no qualifications higher than a lower secondary school leaving certificate) as well as particularly difficult starting and general conditions for students due to flight or war. Other special social circumstances, activities in academic or student self-administration and voluntary work were also used as selection criteria. First-semester students were awarded a place based on their A-level grades. For foreign students, the degree of need was taken into account in the case of equivalent performance.

Application form
The application form (PDF, 157 kB) provided as part of the invitation to tender was to be used for the application. This had to be completed digitally, signed and sent together with the required documents in PDF format by email to landesstipendium@uni-osnabrueck.de.
Awarding of scholarships
The award was made by a central selection committee on the basis of the aforementioned criteria. There was no legal entitlement to the award. The scholarships will be paid out by April 1, 2024 at the latest.
BAföG recipients
were informed that the approval of scholarships may be taken into account as income when granting benefits under the BAföG and that binding information should have been obtained from the BAföG department of the Osnabrück Student Union.
