Humboldt Professorship awarded to Osnabrück University for the first time

Leading researcher Professor Stefanie Engel is set to join the interdisciplinary Institute of Environmental Systems Research. The Alexander von Humboldt Professorship is the most valuable award for research in Germany, valued at € 3.5 million. The award ceremony was held in Berlin on May 8, 2014.

Professor Stefanie Engel of ETH Zurich is considered to be one of the world’s leading researchers in environmental economics. Engel investigates how individuals and groups treat their environment and natural resources, and how their behavior can be influenced and controlled. To this end, she employs a wide range of methods deriving, for example, from behavioral economics and game theory. At the interdisciplinary Institute of Environmental Systems Research, she will enhance the focus on “Governance of sustainable social-ecological systems” with her expertise.

 

The most valuable award for research in Germany is granted to leading researchers of all disciplines working abroad by the Humboldt Foundation. The award amount is € 5 million for researchers in experimental disciplines and € 3.5 million for researchers in theoretical disciplines.

This year’s total of six Humboldt Professorships were awarded in Berlin on May 8, 2014. The awards were presented by the Federal Minister of Education and Research, Johanna Wanka, and Helmut Schwarz, President of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
